Matt Wetmore

Matt, or DOS, as he sometimes signs his work, is a San Francisco Tenderloin artist, with roots in NYC. Matt started painting full time in 2020, and has been perfecting his style while honing his craft. Forged from many aspects of his life: graffiti hand-style writing, Deadhead, Biker Culture, Back-country traveler, Matt has found his own style.

Matt describes his style as “Modern New-Revival Psychedelic”. When asked to describe what that was, he replied, “I don’t know, I made it up. My paintings aren’t psychedelic in the traditional connotation of the term. I use day-glo, but not in the same manner of the Psychedelic 60’s. My take on my paintings is to give the viewer a psychedelic view of the world. Not so much as a psychedelic enhancement, but a glimpse of what a psychedelic experience could look like”. He continued, “There’s a bit of Abstract, Surrealism, Cubism, and high-school notebook doodles all blended together to create complex colors, images and layered background images. I like that a viewer can see different things in my paintings based on light or the angle that they walk by. Natural light often adds peeks at hidden gems”.

Matt is currently living and painting in the Tenderloin.
